Steps to Affiliation

Complete the general information section and an essay.

Provide the location of your affiliate.

U.S. & U.K. applicants submit proof of insurance.

Submit payment for your first year as a CrossFit affiliate.

License Agreement

E-sign the annual license agreement.

Congratulations! You are an official affiliate.

The first step in the affiliation process is to fill out an application and write an essay. The essay should contain info about your background, what CrossFit affiliation means to you, why you want it, and what you want to achieve. It doesn't have to be long or formal, but it should be from the heart.

The other informal step is to educate yourself and become a part of the community. This can happen in many ways. Do the workouts and post your results to the WOD comments, join the Message Board, subscribe to and read the CrossFit Journal, come to a seminar, and make friends with and visit other affiliates.

  • CrossFit Training Certificate
We require an applicant to be at least a Level 1 Certificate holder before applying for affiliation. We offer Level 1 Certificate Courses several times a year. Please check the link for more information. A CrossFit Level 3 Certificate also meets this requirement.
  • Proof of Insurance (U.S. and U.K. affiliates)

U.S. affiliates will be required to submit proof of insurance. Insurance can be purchased from a variety of companies. CrossFit HQ, however, does offer something called the CrossFit Risk Retention Group that we think offers the best insurance for CrossFit affiliates. It is an insurance group formed and run by CrossFit affiliates. You can read more about the RRG here: Please see the Insurance section for more detailed information.

Just as CrossFit put together the RRG in the U.S. to make sure there was a program available that fit perfectly what would best protect our Affiliates and CrossFit, Inc., so too have we established a program in the U.K. to provide the same thing. The coverage is offered by the CrossFit International Insurance Program. Theirs is not the only policy that CrossFit, Inc. will accept from U.K. Affiliates but it is the gold standard and like the RRG it is offered at a very competitive price and has no potential holes in it’s coverage which is something we cannot guarantee with the other available policies in the U.K.

  • Website
Once you are affiliated, you will need to have a live website before we will be able to link you on the CrossFit site. This is our primary vehicle for promoting you; therefore, we expect you maintain a good site. Please do not register a domain with the CrossFit name in it until after your affiliate application has been approved; CrossFit is a licensed trademark and its use without our prior permission is illegal. Please see Website Checklist for more detailed information.

Below are the website requirements for licensed affiliates. Please do not publish an affiliate website until after your affiliation paperwork has been finalized!

  • If you are a gym that is not solely CrossFit (i.e. you offer martial arts, etc.), you must create a separate CrossFit page on your website. Please be sure you put the CrossFit Journal link on your CrossFit page. This is the page that we will be linking to.
  • All links to CrossFit materials must be links to the CrossFit site. You cannot use locally hosted versions of CrossFit material (e.g., PDF files, etc).
  • Ensure all content on your site is original or properly attributed. In other words, if you copy (or paraphrase) any content from the main site or another affiliate, you must give credit. "Courtesy of CrossFit Inc." is fine.
  • All photos from and the CrossFit Journal, and all CrossFit logos and graphics are copyrighted by CrossFit Inc. and none may be used without permission and attribution. The Athena (pit bull) graphics are not available for use.
  • No wholesale reproduction of main site content is authorized. Please link instead.
  • “Place your CrossFit affiliate name in a prominent location, and always please remember to capitalize the “F” whenever you use the trademark “CrossFit.” Thanks!”
  • The affiliate name provided on the site (e.g., CrossFit ABC) should be exactly the same as the name used in the license agreement.
  • Include actual location (city, state) and contact info somewhere prominent on the site.

Once your application is approved and we receive your paperwork, we'll link to your website from the main page of You will also have access to the private Affiliate Forum on the CrossFit Message Boards, where you'll be able to interact with other affiliates and tap their knowledge and experience to help you thrive. Also, your affiliate will be considered for features on the main page if you send us high-quality, interesting photos and videos of your training and events.

Commercial Affiliates are listed on the Affiliate Map.
